Just read an article that stated that a record 9% of American homeowners with a mortgage are either behind in payments or are somewhere in the foreclosure process. Of course Florida, along with California is leading the way. So I figured it was time to update my records and take a look at the rate at which foreclosures are being initiated in Hillsborough County. I do this by taking a look at how many Lis Pendens were issued each month in Hillsborough County.
It seems that May, June and July of 2008 were the peak months so far. The number of foreclosure notices filed in August dropped off by about 13% as compared to July. Hopefully, that trend continues and the worst of that stuff is behind is. If so, that would add fuel to the thinking that the worst is behind us. I’ll take a look in early October to see if this trend will continue.
